The Birth Of Kung Fu Films: Outlaws, Cowboys and Monks
In 1920, the first kung fu movie was made. The genre all started with this story.
Sagacious Lu, our hero, was fleeing his home in a backwater town. He was on the run after bashing in the brains of a wife beater. Lu made his epic escape with the help of a gallant fraternity, known as the Outlaws of the Marsh.
Lu goes on to slice up and eat the flesh of a thief, and foil the plans of some cannibalistic peddlers hawking dumplings filled with human flesh. Deep in a drunken stupor, Lu even slaughters a consort of monks and burns their temple down. Their offense? Holding a woman captive and speaking rudely to the Sagacious one.
